New Year eves is the day of the year where many glasses of champagne and alcoholic cocktails are consumed. According to a research New Year’s Day is the winner of the year with most people having a hangover.
What causes a hangover?
I believe most of us have experienced a hangover with the unmistakable common symptoms include headache, nausea, dizziness or a sense of the room spinning, extreme thirst and felling altogether miserable. The alcohol has a toxic effect on both the brain and the body and when the body tries to metabolise the alcohol into a substance called acetaldehyde then you feel these hangover symptoms. Our endogenous antioxidant glutathione gets depleted and our body’s capability to detoxify is weakened.
How to minimise the symptoms:
Alcohol consumption will make you more dehydrated if water is not consumed. I would therefore drink a large glass of water with each alcoholic beverage.
One hour before the big party I would recommend taken these supplements :
A complex B vitamin, zinc, and magnesium that can help to “speed up the process of acetaldehyde” and support your detoxification.
NAC (N-acetyl-Cysteine) so our body can make more glutathione, which is one of the body’s most potent and important antioxidant.
Vitamin C an antioxidant to protect the body from oxidative stress of the toxins.
This will at least help the liver involved in the alcohol detox.
By these tips on the last day of the year I would like to wish you and your loved ones a very Happy New Year.
See you soon in 2022 :-)
